Summer Rain

Juicy, sweet sugarsnap peas

My best day of the summer, so far!  This afternoon, while I was harvesting garlic, it started pouring rain for about a half hour, finally giving the ground a decent soak.  I enjoyed it so much that I just kept working in the rain and puddles.  The lightning was a bit intense at times, but that cool rain just felt great.  And the veggies out in the fields probably enjoyed it at least as much as I did!

It has been so dry at the farm that quite a few cool-weather crops were suffering a bit.  However, the cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, squashes and other warm-weather crops that have irrigation on them have been doing pretty good.  This rain was very much needed, and appreciated, at the farm.

Spicy, full sour dill pickles

We are starting to have an expanded offering of vegetables:  at the farmers’ market; Marquette Food Co-op; our weekly CSA; and in the online store.  For the rest of this season we are offering free home delivery (Marquette) for orders of $35 or more and no minimum order.  If you want to try out the store and let us know how it goes, we will knock 10% off of your order during the month of August.  Just go to our Shop page, or directly to our store to peruse the selection.

For those of you interested in one-time boxes for pickles and pesto, now is the time to start planning for that.  We have been harvesting picklers for a couple of weeks now, and the pickling dill is looking gorgeous right now.  I started a big jar of full sour dill pickles myself and they are great; spicy and sour, just like I enjoy them.

Until next time!
